Alterazioni Video's Circus on the Zattere in Venice

The Italian artist collective Alterazioni Video has transformed the Fondamenta delle Zattere in Venice into a circus-like spectacle, culminating in a grand Dionysian festival on May 10. The project draws inspiration from pre-revolutionary Russian circuses and fairs, where performers and audiences mingled without social distinctions, creating egalitarian, participatory events. The artists recount that in August 1919, Lenin signed the 'Decree on the Nationalization of Theaters and Circuses,' bringing all circuses under state control. The project features a baritone, a cannon woman, record-breaking kissers at a Kissing Booth, and a dancing Hooligan. It is part of the 2019 Venice Biennale.
