Altara raises $7M seed to unify fragmented physical sciences data with AI

Altara, a startup located in San Francisco, has successfully secured $7 million in seed funding to implement an AI framework that integrates scattered technical information from batteries, semiconductors, and medical devices into one cohesive platform. The funding round was spearheaded by Greylock, with additional contributions from Neo, BoxGroup, Liquid 2 Ventures, and Jeff Dean. Established in 2025 by Eva Tuecke, a former researcher in particle physics at Fermilab and an engineer at SpaceX, alongside Catherine Yeo, a previous AI engineer at Warp, the duo met while pursuing computer science at Harvard University. Altara’s AI technology aims to shorten the lengthy manual diagnosis of physical system failures—from weeks to mere minutes. Corinne Riley, a partner at Greylock, likens Altara’s function to that of site reliability engineers in the software realm, highlighting its hardware focus compared to AI solutions for software failures, such as those from Greylock-supported Resolve. Distinct from rivals like Periodic Labs and Radical AI, Altara adopts a less capital-intensive strategy by offering an intelligence layer that complements existing legacy systems instead of replacing them. Riley anticipates significant advancements in AI applications for physical science, seeing it as the “next big frontier.”
