exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Galleria Sagittaria in Pordenone hosts a major retrospective of Francesco Tullio Altan, known as Altan, from October 8 to November 27, 2022. Curated by Silvia Pignat and Angelo Bertani, the exhibition titled "Francesco Tullio Altan. Pimpa e i suoi amici" is part of the 14th edition of the Sentieri Illustrati festival, dedicated to children's illustration. The show centers on Altan's beloved red-spotted dog Pimpa, featuring a large installation for young visitors. It also includes works featuring characters like the metalworker Cipputi, Kamillo Kromo, and Trino, alongside original storyboards, sketches, and the famous story where Armando discovers Pimpa in a bush. The entrance displays Altan's biography and selected vignettes. Altan, born in Treviso in 1942, studied in Bologna and Venice, worked as a set designer in Rome, and moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1970. He began regular cartoonist work in 1974, created Pimpa in 1975, and has published satirical cartoons in Linus, L'Espresso, and La Repubblica. He won the Premio È giornalismo in 2001.
