Allison Katz's Memorial Exhibition at Battat Contemporary Blends Paintings and Objects
The solo exhibition titled Ruthless by Allison Katz took place at Battat Contemporary in Montreal from April 30 to June 13. This showcase included handmade artworks and paintings developed over a two-year period, paying tribute to her deceased grandmother, Ruth. Among the pieces were a yellow wooden snake, a replica of a funeral cloth inspired by Yves St. Laurent’s design, and still-lifes crafted from sand. Katz's varied paintings encompassed both still-lifes and abstract forms, featuring significant works like Cactus and Chalk Farm. Egypt's Grapes illustrated a female figure against a red backdrop. The exhibition delved into themes of sensual vitality, loss, and mortality, with recurring elements of plant motifs, pears, and swans, all while maintaining a mournful tone.
