All these fleeting perfections: Torino exhibition explores photography's evolution

After over three years of closure, the Biblioteca Geisser in Turin reopened on October 28, 2023, following refurbishment works that added new spaces in the basement. The reopening coincides with the exhibition "All these fleeting perfections," curated by Domenico Quaranta in collaboration with Artissima and EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival. The show takes its title from a 1955 Italo Calvino story, "L'avventura di un fotografo," and examines the role of images today, spanning works from 1939 to the present. It serves as a prelude to the new International Festival of Photography in Turin, starting May 2, 2024. Artists include Franco Vaccari, David Horvitz, Eva and Franco Mattes, Thomas Ruff, Thomas Hirschhorn, Anna Ridler, Matthew Attard (recently named Malta's representative at the next Venice Biennale), Claude Cahun, James Bridle, Mariella Bettineschi, Francesco Gennari, Leslie Thornton, and Federica di Pietrantonio. Quaranta states the show is not a photography exhibition but a reflection on photography's role in constructing a way of seeing over the 20th and 21st centuries.
