All Ten of Jan van Eyck's Portraits United for First Time at National Gallery

In a groundbreaking event, the National Gallery in London will host its inaugural exhibition exclusively focused on the portraits of Jan van Eyck, the distinguished Netherlandish artist who worked from 1422 to 1441. Entitled 'Van Eyck: The Portraits', this exhibition is scheduled from 21 November 2026 to 11 April 2027. It will showcase all ten of van Eyck's surviving portraits, which are currently scattered across Europe, including nine painted works and a significant loan: 'Portrait of an Elderly Man' (c. 1438), the only existing drawing by the artist, created in silverpoint and goldpoint on prepared paper, sourced from the Kupferstich-Kabinett, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. This exhibition presents approximately half of van Eyck's estimated twenty autograph pieces, emphasizing his exceptional skill and influence in Northern Renaissance portraiture.
