Alistair Hudson appointed director of ZKM Karlsruhe following controversial departure from Whitworth Art Gallery

Beginning in April 2023, Alistair Hudson will take on the role of director at the Zentrums für Kunst und Medien (ZKM) located in Karlsruhe, Germany. His new position follows his resignation from Manchester University’s Whitworth Art Gallery in February 2022, which was prompted by backlash over a pro-Palestinian statement featured in Forensic Architecture’s 2021 exhibition, Cloud Studies. This statement faced criticism from pro-Israel organizations and UK Lawyers for Israel. Concerns regarding Hudson’s dismissal were raised by the International Committee for Museums, resulting in protests from twenty-three artists. He replaces Peter Weibel, who directed ZKM for more than twenty years. The exhibition Cloud Studies is currently on display at the Wellcome Collection until 16 October.
