Alison Elizabeth Taylor debuts hybrid marquetry paintings on West Coast

exhibition · 2026-04-25

From April 24 to May 30, 2026, Jessica Silverman will host “I’ll Be Your Mirror,” marking Alison Elizabeth Taylor’s inaugural solo show on the West Coast. The exhibition showcases innovative wood inlay paintings and multimedia paper works that delve into the social experiences of young women, highlighting intersections of performance and vulnerability. Taylor captures lively, dynamic environments filled with moments of joy and freedom. A master of wood, she enhances traditional marquetry by merging wood veneer inlay with oil painting and vibrant collaged materials like sawdust. Taylor began her exploration of cut wood while pursuing painting at Columbia University in New York. In 2009, she was awarded a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship.
