Alice Rohrwacher's 'Bar Luna' installation at Cinema Modernissimo in Bologna

Alice Rohrwacher, the Italian filmmaker known for 'Le meraviglie' (Cannes 2014) and 'La chimera' (2023), presents the immersive installation 'Bar Luna' in the underground spaces of Bologna's Cinema Modernissimo. Curated with the artistic duo Muta Imago (Claudia Sorace and Riccardo Fazi), the multimedia show debuted at Centre Pompidou in Paris in December 2023. The Bologna edition, free and open by reservation until June 30, 2024, is part of the 38th edition of the Il Cinema Ritrovato festival, which runs until mid-August. The installation transforms a familiar kitchen into a starry sky centered on a memory of a peripheral bar, inspired by Rohrwacher's film 'La chimera' and the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. It features contributions from florist-landscaper Thierry Boutemy and set designer Giancarlo Basili, blending oral tales, soundscapes, photographs, and video fragments. Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, the show comes alive with actors and performers in the afternoon. Rohrwacher previously collaborated with French artist JR on the 2019 short 'Omelia Contadina' and is reportedly starting a new joint project.
