Alice Capelli: Gen Z Artist on Body, Memory, and Lattice

artist · 2026-04-27

Alice Capelli (b. 1997, Milan) is an emerging artist working in Milan. She graduated in painting from Brera Academy and earned a Master in Art and Ecology from NABA in 2023. Her first group show was at Palazzo Cusani in Milan in 2021, followed by a show at the Museo d'Arte Moderna di Mantova in 2022. Capelli uses her body as a medium, applying latex directly onto her skin to create paintings and sculptures that document physical presence. Her performance series 'Strapparmi la buccia' (To Peel off My Skin, 2021–2023) involves coating parts of her body with latex, letting it dry, then removing and installing the skin-like casts. She describes her painting style as watery, using pigment and acrylic emulsion with little color to evoke a sense of time passed. Capelli works from a former industrial studio in Gaggiano, a small town near Milan. She has no fixed gallery representation and approaches her practice both instinctively and project-based. Her work explores memory, sexuality, and the vulnerability of the physical body.
