Alia Farid Premieres New Video Installation for Artes Mundi 10 Exhibition in Wales
Alia Farid is showcasing her solo project at the Artes Mundi 10 exhibition, which spans five locations in Wales. Since 2019, her work has delved into the effects of colonial borders and resource extraction on Kuwait and southern Iraq. At the National Museum Cardiff, she unveils a two-channel video installation, available until 25 February. The exhibition features seven artists who examine themes of land use, territory, and displacement. Farid's installation includes 'In Lieu of What Is,' a sculpture/drinking fountain crafted from polyester resin, alluding to historical water offerings. Artes Mundi 10, in partnership with the Bagri Foundation, awards a £40,000 prize to an established international artist, with the winner revealed in January. Farid sees art as a means of truth and intends to allocate any prize money towards a studio.
