Ali Kazma to present video series Resistance at Turkish Pavilion in Venice Biennale

Ali Kazma will represent Turkey at the Venice Biennale with a new video series titled Resistance, comprising approximately fifteen works exploring the contemporary body's limits and its relationship with the world. The artist has dedicated the past eight months exclusively to this project, halting other activities to focus on production at a student-like intensity. Kazma's pavilion will be located at the Arsenale. This marks his first experience attending the biennale, though he rarely travels to exhibitions. He expressed particular interest in seeing Massimiliano Gioni's The Encyclopedic Palace. Regarding national representation, Kazma views birthplace as a personal destiny to acknowledge individually, while rejecting the notion that any single person can represent an entire country. He avoids considering a target audience during creation, believing such marketing terminology would be detrimental to artistic integrity. Instead, he focuses on pushing his own limits, hoping to connect with like-minded viewers through this rigorous approach.
