Ali Eyal, Mari Katayama, Jeamin Cha Win Major Art Awards
Three talented artists from Asia and the U.S. have recently received notable honors. In February, Iraqi artist Ali Eyal was awarded the Mohn Award by the Hammer Museum, which comes with a generous prize of $100,000 to help boost emerging artists in Los Angeles. Over in Tokyo, Mari Katayama, known for her unique handsewn sculptures and analog photography that explore personal experiences, earned the first-ever Mori Art Award from the Mori Contemporary Art Foundation, which is worth JPY 10 million (around $63,000). Additionally, in March, Korean media artist Jeamin Cha received KRW 30 million (about $20,000) along with production backing for a solo show set for May 2027 at Atelier Hermès in Seoul, as part of the Hermès Foundation's 21st Missulsang.
