Algeria Makes Biennale Arte 2019 Debut with 'Time To Shine Bright'
Algeria will participate for the first time in the Venice Biennale at the 58th International Art Exhibition, presenting the group show 'Time To Shine Bright' from May 11 to November 24, 2019. The pavilion is located at Fondamenta di San Giuseppe in the Castello district. Curated by designer Hellal Mahmoud Zoubir, the exhibition features artists Rachida Azdaou, Hamza Bounoua, Amina Zoubir, Mourad Krinah, and Oussama Tabti. The show explores the theme of time, particularly the tendency to postpone self-realization and the role of artists in contemporary society. According to the curatorial text, the artists' nocturnal habits and delayed actions nonetheless illuminate human darkness through their aesthetic perception. Alongside Algeria, two other countries debut at the 2019 Biennale: Madagascar, with a pavilion in the Arsenale featuring Joël Andrianomearisoa, and Pakistan, presenting Naiza Khan's 'Manora Field Notes' exploring life in the Manora peninsula near Karachi, reflecting broader issues of the Global South.
