Alfredo Rapetti Mogol's 'Lettere dall'uragano' exhibition in Milan explores painting-writing fusion

exhibition · 2026-04-19

Alfredo Rapetti Mogol's solo exhibition 'LETTERE DALL'URAGANO' opened at Milan's Cittadella degli Archivi on April 15, 2026, during Milan Art Week 2026, and runs through May 15, 2026. The show, organized by cultural association Isorropia Homegallery and Galleria Ferrero Arte Contemporanea, presents works combining painting and writing through a technique called 'impuntura,' creating pictorial writing. Rapetti, born in Milan in 1961 into an artistic family, studied at Milan's Scuola del Fumetto and joined Alessandro Algardi and Mario Arlati's atelier in 1996. His fragmented texts, like 'AB BIC URAD IT E' which reconstructs to 'ABBI CURA DI TE,' challenge contemporary content consumption habits and invite viewers to slow down and reconstruct meaning. The exhibition includes an installation of five sequential works based on Article 1 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, where the text progressively blurs until disappearing on a blank page, commenting on current human rights violations. Another installation, 'Tre Farfalle,' features a metal coffin filled with rubble representing war destruction, topped with three paper origami butterflies symbolizing hope and freedom. Rapetti's work references historical art movements from avant-garde to conceptual art, including Lucio Fontana's spatial experiences and 1950s abstract graphics, while engaging with today's image-word bombardment on social media.
