Alfredo Pirri's monumental installation for Rome's digital New Year's Eve
For Rome's all-digital New Year's Eve celebration called Oltre Tutto, organized by Roma Capitale to comply with the 'Decreto Natale' restrictions, artist Alfredo Pirri (born 1957 in Cosenza) created a monumental installation titled Fuoco-Cenere-Silenzio. The work consisted of six silos up to 8 meters tall, activated at midnight, channeling flames that burned wood and shrubs from tree prunings. Pirri described it as an 'oggetto monumentale' designed and installed in just a few days with significant technical support. The artist has produced many large-scale works in recent years, including a 2019 bamboo structure at the entrance of the Museo Civico di Livorno with a dim lamp that lights at dusk, and a floor installation at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome from 2012 to 2016, also installed at Palazzo Altemps, the Museo Nazionale Romano, and Centrul de Interes in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. In 2019, he inaugurated a temporary work dedicated to Antonio Gramsci at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, which continues with two permanent works in Tirana, Albania, and Turi, Bari. His upcoming projects include a cultural center inside an active cement factory and a permanent work at the top floor of the Kursaal theater in Bari, currently under restoration.
