Alfredo Pirri Inaugurates Polytropon Arts Center in Tuscany
The Polytropon Arts Center, a new cultural venue created by Greek-born architect Maria Papadaki Badanjak in a converted former spinning mill at the intersection of Pelago and Pontassieve, 13 km from Florence, opens with its inaugural exhibition "Quello che avanza" by Alfredo Pirri (born 1957, Cosenza). The show runs until June 21, 2026, and features 144 cyanotypes from 2014–2017, made by exposing sensitized supports and feathers to UV light, alongside works from the "Arie" series in plexiglass, crystal, feathers, and colors. The exhibition is conceived as a single installation that dialogues with the space's musical program curated by artistic director Andrea Cavallari, with upcoming concerts on May 17 ("Il giardino Zen" and "A Fluxus night") and June 21 for the finissage. Pirri previously collaborated with Cavallari in 2019 for the "Firenze Suona Contemporanea" festival at the Museo Novecento. The center will soon add a café and an art education area. The cyanotypes reference early experiments by British botanist and photographer Anna Atkins (1799–1871), emphasizing light as a central process, amplified by the venue's large windows overlooking the Sieve River.
