Alfredo Müller's graphic works showcased in three-venue Sesto Fiorentino exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

A major exhibition dedicated to Alfredo Müller (Livorno, 1869 – Paris, 1939) opened across three venues in Sesto Fiorentino, curated by Hélène Koehl and Emanuele Bardazzi. The show presents about one hundred works created in Paris between 1895 and 1906, making it the largest collection of his Parisian graphic works ever displayed in Italy or abroad. A preview began on September 11, 2022, at the Rifugio Gualdo, where works by other artists such as Albert Besnard, Alfons Mucha, Georges de Feure, Jules Chéret, Toulouse-Lautrec, Marcel-Lenoir, and Paul Berthon are also on view, alongside satirical magazines like Le Rire and L'Assiette au beurre, including an issue fully illustrated by Félix Vallotton. The main exhibition spaces are the Centro Espositivo Antonio Berti and the Soffitta Spazio delle Arti, focusing respectively on Müller's stay in Osny and his Montmartre period. Müller, a polyglot painter, engraver, musician, and billiard champion, was a pioneer of color etching in Belle Époque Paris. The show includes his series of six etchings for Dante Alighieri's Vita Nuova, published by Ambroise Vollard in 1898 in only twelve copies. A comprehensive catalog accompanies the exhibition.
