Alfredo Jaar omaggia Letizia Battaglia a Belluno

Alfredo Jaar, born in Santiago, Chile, in 1956, has created a new photographic piece honoring his late friend Letizia Battaglia (Palermo, 1935 – 2022), widely regarded as the most significant Italian photographer of the past fifty years. In the 1980s and 1990s, she bravely documented the Sicilian mafia using a Leica camera. This work is part of Jaar's project Three Women, which highlights the contributions of unseen women striving to make a difference. Jaar reflects on Battaglia, stating, "For her, photography was an act of resistance and an act of love. Walk the streets of Palermo, and you will find her." The piece will be exhibited at mezzaterra11 – flat gallery in Belluno, a project space dedicated to showcasing international artists through a single, site-specific image. Jaar's exploration began with his inaugural exhibition in Paris in 2011 and has since expanded significantly on a global scale.
