Alfonso Femia on Water as Architecture's Climate Sentinel

Since 2017, architect Alfonso Femia, who heads Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia AF517 with locations in Genoa, Milan, and Paris, has emphasized the significance of water in the context of climate change. In 2018, he launched the 'Mediterranei invisibili' initiative and has crafted waterfront designs for various locations including Trieste, Porto Marghera, Reggio Calabria, Barcelona, and the terminals in La Spezia and Ravenna. Femia served as the artistic director for the 3rd Pisa Architecture Biennale in 2019 and co-organized the Biennale dello Stretto in 2022. His book, 'La Méditerranée encore à venir. Learning from water,' was unveiled at the Centre Pompidou in June. He advocates for a 3-kilometer park in Trieste and a 40-kilometer park in Reggio Calabria, promoting public parks and seawater as a source of renewable energy.
