Alexandre Perigot's Funkypipe at Galerie Suzanne Tarasiève

exhibition · 2026-04-23

On display at Galerie Suzanne Tarasiève in Paris from October 22 to December 12, 2009, is Alexandre Perigot's installation titled Funkypipe. This exhibition includes three flowing steel sculptures alongside a video featuring a belly dancer, drawing inspiration from Lautréamont's well-known phrase about an umbrella and a sewing machine. The sculptures, which resemble shelves, incorporate a central pipe segmented into motorized parts, producing visual effects akin to dancers in motion. The video, titled Belly Dancer (to Martin Kippenberger), was created in 1997 by Richard Hoeck and Heimo Zobernig. A vast sunset panorama over an oil field, influenced by Azerbaijani postcards, acts as a backdrop, which Perigot refers to as a "landscape of desolation," highlighting the demise of oil and its geopolitical consequences.
