Alexandra Pirici's 'Attune' at Hamburger Bahnhof explores self-organizing matter through installation and performance
The installation 'Attune' by Alexandra Pirici, co-commissioned by Audemars Piguet Contemporary and Berlin's Hamburger Bahnhof, will be on display until October 6. This work includes a life-sized sand dune, silver spider-like structures, chemical gardens encased in glass cylinders, and automated liquids that change color, all featuring human performers to investigate self-organizing systems. Drawing inspiration from Ilya Prigogine and Isabelle Stengers's 'Order Out of Chaos' (1984) as well as the Bénard convection cell experiment (1900), Pirici worked alongside set designer Andrei Dinu and chemists to develop these sculptural elements. Performers will represent self-organizing phenomena while singing polyphonic pieces. The title 'Attune' suggests a connection with intelligent matter, blurring the lines between living and non-living entities.
