Alexandra Grant's Antigone 3000 series debuts at albertz benda

exhibition · 2026-05-21

Antigone 3000 (Anakainōsis) marks Alexandra Grant's inaugural solo exhibition at albertz benda. Running from May 21 to July 03, 2026, the showcase includes new canvases and works on paper that stem from Grant's ongoing exploration of Sophocles’ Antigone myth. Initiated in 2014, this project began with large-scale paper works that integrated painting, collage, and wax rubbings. The Antigone 3000 series has evolved into canvas paintings, utilizing screen printing for text and a squeegee technique for paint application. Grant’s visual narrative interprets the Greek myth through various elements: lines symbolizing legal authority, expressive pours and splashes reflecting life's chaos, and the recurring phrase, "I was born to love not to hate."
