Alexander Calder's mobiles and paintings at Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz
Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz presents a solo exhibition dedicated to Alexander Calder (1898–1976), running until February 9, 2020. Titled simply "Calder," the show spans the artist's career from the 1940s to the 1970s, featuring his iconic mobiles, monumental sculptures, and a selection of oil paintings and gouaches created between 1947 and 1975. The latter, less known but crucial to understanding his practice, exhibit fluid compositions and rapid execution that translate the kinetic energy of his three-dimensional works into two dimensions. One such piece is "Untitled" (1975), which echoes forms found in his sculptures. Calder revolutionized sculpture by introducing a temporal dimension, allowing viewers to experience the work in real time. The exhibition is held at Hauser & Wirth's venue on Via Serlas in St. Moritz.
