Alexa Meade's 'Color of Reality' Short Film Protests Gun Violence

artist · 2026-05-05

American artist Alexa Meade, known for her body painting projects, collaborated with dancers and choreographers Jon Boogz and Lil Buck on a short film titled 'Color of Reality.' The film uses painting to create a visual narrative protesting gun violence in the United States. In the video, the two dancers watch a news broadcast inside a room made two-dimensional through paint. When they step outside, they confront the harsh reality of the real world, where red pigments transform into actual blood. Boogz stated, 'The goal of the short film is to stimulate people's awareness of the serious problems in our society. I use the art of movement to transform such hard issues into messages of hope that are also beautiful. By combining dance storytelling with Alexa's painting style, I hope to spark a constructive dialogue.' The short film was released in 2017.
