Alex Pinna's Sculptures Dialogue with Ancient Artifacts at Pavia University Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Twenty sculptures by Alex Pinna are installed among archaeological artifacts at the Museo Archeologico dell'Università di Pavia, housed in the former Ospedale San Matteo. The exhibition, curated by Vittorio Schieroni, Anna Letizia Magrassi Matricardi, and Paolo Campiglio, runs until November 8. Pinna's works—thin leaf-men, small boxers, gymnasts in delicate balances, solitary or whispering figures—range from 7 to 250 cm (including pedestal) and use iron, bronze, steel, rope, stone, and resin. The artist strategically placed larger pieces to connect with existing statuary, while smaller ones blend mimetically into open display cases. The show is part of the University Museum System's temporary exhibition series that began in 2018, paused for two years due to COVID-19, and resumed. This is provisionally the last exhibition before the complex's roof reinforcement work begins after the closure.
