Alex Hartley's Venice Exhibition Blurs Temporality at Victoria Miro

British artist Alex Hartley (born 1963 in Blackburn) presents a new body of work at Victoria Miro in Venice during the 2023 Architecture Biennale. The exhibition, titled 'Closer Than Before,' explores temporality by confusing past, present, and future, creating atemporal forms. Hartley's works engage with the exhibition space, treating it as if a tide has suddenly arrived. A partially crumbled wall reveals an alternate space. The pieces were created after a residency in Venice, where Hartley was fascinated by Carlo Scarpa's fragmented elegance. The show runs concurrently with the Biennale Architettura 2023.
