Alessio Pellicoro on Metafotografia and the Archive

artist · 2026-04-26

Alessio Pellicoro, born in Taranto in 1994, has cultivated a photographic career spanning nearly ten years, initially using his father's analog cameras. He studied at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome and ISIA Urbino. His photography has appeared in numerous publications, including Vogue, GUP, and Life Framer. Pellicoro has showcased his work both in Italy and internationally. In 2020, he released his debut book, 'Abisso', through Dito Publishing. His most recent solo exhibition, 'Accepting the Void', took place at Palazzo Re Rebaudengo in Guarene (CN). Currently, he collaborates with studiofaganel on 'L'altro Deserto Rosso', which debuted at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Montreal in October 2023. In a conversation with Davide Dal Sasso, he reflects on his metafotografico technique, the dynamics of stillness and motion, and his fascination with archives, especially from his project 'Nel quasi invisibile' at the ICCD in Rome. Pellicoro perceives photography as a lens between the self and reality, viewing the archive as a way to confront time, albeit ultimately in vain.
