Alessandro Scarabello's 'Opera rubra' at Palazzo della Corgna
Alessandro Scarabello (born Rome, 1979; lives in Brussels) has installed the triptych 'Opera rubra' in the Sala delle gesta di Ascanio of Palazzo della Corgna in Castiglione del Lago, directly beneath the large fresco by Pomarancio. The site-specific exhibition, curated by Marcello Smarrelli, features eleven full-length portraits from the 'Uppercrust' series depicting a new aristocracy with sarcasm and surrealism, plus a large installation of one hundred small-format works emerging from black surfaces. The display highlights Scarabello's interest in paradox and grotesque representation, exemplified by a man with crossed arms and a cloth-covered head juxtaposed with a small canvas of a bust in the same pose.
