Alessandro Librio's Sonic Trilogy Continues in Palermo
Alessandro Librio, artist and musician born in Erice in 1984, presents 'Il Suono dei Fiumi' in Palermo, the second act of a trilogy dedicated to his adopted city. The public art sound installation stretches 2,940 meters along the Arab-Norman UNESCO route, using advanced recording technology to capture the sounds of the underground rivers Kemonia and Papireto, which flow beneath the historic center. Curated by Giusi Diana, the project extends beyond a 24-hour sound loop to include two exhibitions at the Archivio Storico Comunale and the Church of Santi Crispino e Crispiniano within the recently restored Biblioteca Comunale. These feature a site-specific installation, video, photographs, and charcoal diptychs on raw canvas. Librio's work evokes the confluence of the two rivers through a recurring Y-shaped motif. The first act of the trilogy was performed live at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2001, where he broadcasted the noise of Palermo's traffic into the canals of Venice.
