Alessandro Di Giampietro's site-specific installation at Casa degli Artisti in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Alessandro Di Giampietro (Pescara, 1972) created 'The Nowness Of The Everyday', a site-specific project for Casa degli Artisti in Milan, during a residency from June 2022 to March 2023. The installation consists of 18 sewn curtains placed in front of windows and doors on the ground floor, using needle and thread as sculptural tools. Rita Selvaggio's accompanying text describes the work as designed for a building that has always been an incubator of research and experimentation. The curtains, made from colored veils, feature stylized masks that are animated by wind and air currents, losing and regaining recognizability. Lorenzo Vatalaro, project coordinator, compared them to moving stained glass windows. The practice of sewing is presented as an archetypal act, a zen-like ritual where the artist's identity merges with the transparent, volatile material. The work references a line of modern art from Kandinsky to Klee, oscillating between figurative and abstract composition. Alberto Mugnaini authored the article on Artribune.
