Alessandro Cinque's 'Ser y aparecer' Explores Identity and Representation in Peruvian Andes
Alessandro Cinque, an Italian photographer born in Orvieto in 1988 and currently residing in Lima, showcases 'Ser y aparecer' at the 12th edition of Cortona On The Move, running until October 2, 2022. This project juxtaposes his documentary portraits with the imaginative ID photos of Peruvian photographer Yhon Alex Huachaca López, taken in Espinar, Cuzco. After relocating to Peru five years ago to explore mining pollution, Cinque examined the colonial perspective of his work. He collaborated in Huachaca López's studio, where campesinos are photographed in traditional attire to reflect various social classes. The exhibition features a prominent portrait of Huachaca López, who was unable to attend. Cinque's experience includes working in his father Giovannino Cinque's wedding photography business and studying at the International Center of Photography in New York.
