Alessandra Quarto, an architect currently serving as Superintendent for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan city of Bologna and the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Ferrara, has been named the new director of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan. She succeeds Annalisa Zanni, who held the position for 23 years and will remain at the museum in a strategic role focusing on institutional and international relations. Quarto was selected through a public call launched in March 2022 and will assume her five-year term on January 2, 2023. Born in 1974, Quarto earned a degree in architecture in 1999 and a PhD in history and criticism of architecture in 2002. From 2003 to 2011, she worked for the Neapolitan Museum Pole, overseeing exhibition setups and the reinstallation of historic rooms at the Museo di Capodimonte. After winning a national competition by the then-Mibact, she became an architect officer in Lombardy in 2012, serving as Technical Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, where she managed exhibition setups, directed works at Palazzo di Brera, organized events, and handled European funds for the Grande Brera project. She was also vice-director of the Pinacoteca from 2016 to 2019. In 2019, she was appointed Superintendent for the provinces of Biella, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola and Vercelli, based in Novara, before moving to her current role in 2021.
