Alessandra Leta Wins Premio Mila for Contemporary Photography 2025

award · 2026-04-26

Alessandra Leta, an artist and researcher born in Milan in 1997, has won the fourth edition of the Premio Mila per la Fotografia Contemporanea 2025 with her series The Unmovable Mover. The award, established in 2014 in memory of Mila Malerba, co-founder of the Fondo Malerba per la Fotografia (founded in 2004), is dedicated to supporting new generations in visual culture through exhibitions, workshops, grants, and prizes. Leta's project reconstructs the imaginary history of a small industrial complex in Central Europe during the 1960s, blending documentary photographs with images taken in 2022 and 2023. The title references Aristotle's 'unmoved mover,' drawing a parallel with capital as a driving force that remains untouched by the oscillations it generates. The jury, composed of Caterina Angelucci, Matteo Balduzzi, Marta Cereda, Bernardo Follini, Francesca Lazzarini, and curator Andrea Elia Zanini, praised the work for its originality and critical reflection on invisible power. The winning piece enters the Collezione Malerba and is exhibited alongside finalists Eleonora Agostini, Valeria Cherchi, Laura Fiorio, Vashish Soobah, and Alba Zari at Careof in Milan (Via Giulio Cesare Procaccini 4), open until June 18, 2025. The Malerba collection, started in 1990 by Mila and Alessandro Malerba, now includes over a thousand works by world-renowned photographers.
