award · 2026-04-27

Alessandra Ferrini has been awarded the third edition of the Maxxi Bvlgari Prize, a collaboration between the Rome museum Maxxi and Italian luxury house Bvlgari. Her video installation "Gaddafi in Rome: Notes for a Film" will enter the Maxxi Arte collection. The work examines Muammar Gaddafi's 2009 official visit to Italy for the Treaty of Friendship, Partnership and Cooperation between Italy and Libya, drawing on reportage from La Repubblica. The jury, chaired by Hoor Al Qasimi and including Chiara Parisi, Dirk Snauwaert, Hou Hanru, and Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, selected Ferrini from a shortlist also comprising Namsal Siedlecki and Silvia Rosi. Rosi received the Public Prize for her work "Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense." The three finalists are featured in an exhibition at Galleria 5 on the third floor of Maxxi until November 20. Ferrini, born in Florence in 1984, is an artist, researcher, and educator focusing on the legacies of Italian colonialism and fascism. Maxxi President Giovanna Melandri praised the prize as growing to rival international awards like the Turner Prize and Prix Duchamp. Bvlgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin highlighted the prize's role in the Italian and international art scene.
