Alejandra Díez de Rivera's 'Theatres of the mind' at Espacio Valverde

Espacio Valverde presents 'Theatres of the mind', a solo exhibition by Alejandra Díez de Rivera, as part of the OFF section of PHotoESPAÑA. The series features photographs of psychologically ambiguous spaces—empty yet historically charged—such as a confessional, a theater box, and a hospital bed. These settings evoke complex human experiences from guilt to absolution, intimacy to spectacle, birth to death. Díez de Rivera questions whether these rooms merely served as backdrops or actively shaped human actions and emotions. Alongside the spaces, objects like empty crucifixes, dueling pistols, rifles, and medals appear as symbols of violence, power, faith, and devotion, now inert but still resonant. The work relies on viewer participation to complete the narrative, turning each image into an inner theater.
