Ale Giorgini's 'Intervallo' Project Turns Lockdown Window Views into Illustrated Travelogues

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Italian illustrator Ale Giorgini adapted his travel initiative 'Intervallo' into a collaborative visual diary. Initially launched in 2017, the project featured illustrated postcards showcasing travels throughout Italy and Europe. However, the planned 45-day journey in 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic. In response, Giorgini appealed on Instagram for followers to share photos of their window views. He received over 1,300 images from various locations, including New York, Bora Bora, and Tokyo, in just a few days. From March to May 2020, he created 78 digital illustrations, fostering a silent conversation with those in lockdown. Many contributors shared personal stories, enriching the project emotionally. Giorgini, a self-taught illustrator, has worked with brands such as Armani and Disney. The title 'Intervallo' references a 1970s Italian TV show that featured scenic postcards before the evening news.
