Alchemy as a Lens for Latin American Art at MARCO Monterrey

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO) is hosting a significant exhibition called "Constellations and Drifts: Art from Latin America in the FEMSA Collection," which will be open until August 9, 2026, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the FEMSA Collection. This showcase includes 170 pieces from 115 artists, featuring notable names such as Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, Francis Alÿs, and a newly commissioned work by Ad Minoliti. The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections, with one dedicated to alchemy, merging pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial elements. Key highlights include contributions from Remedios Varo, Leonor Fini, and Alice Rahon, while contemporary artists like Circe Irasema and Olga de Amaral delve into spirituality through alchemy. The exhibition also draws connections to recent Surrealism exhibitions, such as "Surrealism and Magic" (2022) and "Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100."
