Alchemy and Nature Converge at SFER IK Museion in Tulum
The SFER IK Museion in Tulum, Mexico, hosts 'Alchemistry,' a group exhibition curated by Claudia Paetzold featuring Kelly Akashi, Bianca Bondi, and Rochelle Goldberg. The venue, designed by Eduardo Neira (ROTH) as part of a luxury resort, is a non-traditional space built with wood and cement following Maya architectural traditions, nestled between the Yucatan coast and a mangrove forest. The exhibition explores alchemical processes through works that engage with transformation, spirituality, and the natural environment. Akashi's 'Pincer' uses bronze and wax casts of her hand in a glass form, while Goldberg's ceramic masks fuse earth, water, fire, and air. Bondi's 'Tegeticula Yuccasella' hangs from the ceiling as a translucent purple cloak, and her site-specific 'This is Jupiter in Sagittarius, Healing and Justice' grows salt crystals throughout the show. Paetzold emphasizes the show is not pre-planned but responds to the unique context, aiming for a holistic sensory experience. The exhibition runs until September 30, 2019.
