Album covers by artists: from Warhol to Banksy in Turin
Square 23 Art Gallery in Turin presents 'Street Vinyl', an exhibition of record covers designed by visual artists rather than graphic designers, spanning rock, pop, rap, and indie music from the past half-century. The show features iconic works such as Andy Warhol's banana for The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967), Keith Haring's cover for David Bowie's Without You (1983), and Jenny Saville's oil portrait for Manic Street Preachers' Plague Lovers (2009). Street art is heavily represented: Jean-Michel Basquiat's Beat Bop (1983) single cover, Banksy's designs for the Badmeaningood compilation and Röyksopp's Melody A.M., and rare hip-hop vinyl from Phase II and Futura 2000. The exhibition runs from March 4 to April 1, 2017.
