Alberto Zorzi's Jewelry as Sculpture: A Major Retrospective in Arezzo

A major retrospective of Venetian artist Alberto Zorzi, titled "Alberto Zorzi. Straordinario scultore orafo e il gioiello d'artista," opened at the Museo Orodautore in Palazzo della Fraternità, Arezzo, under the aegis of Fondazione Guido d'Arezzo. Curated by Giuliano Centrodi, scientific curator of the museum, the exhibition focuses on Zorzi's recent production, almost exclusively unique pieces, while also showcasing experiments from the mid-1980s and his defined stylistic identity from the 1990s. Zorzi, a leading figure of the Scuola di Padova, redefines traditional jewelry codes through dynamic, sculptural forms that recall Boccioni's dynamism and the legacy of the Gruppo Enne. His work employs precious metals (gold, silver) alongside semi-precious stones (lapis, tourmaline, jasper, onyx, quartz), synthetic materials (spinel), and organics (horn, mother-of-pearl). The exhibition also highlights Zorzi's long relationship with Arezzo, starting in 1989 when he participated in the second edition of "Oro d'Autore" with the necklace "Cadono le stelle." His pieces are held in major museums including the Tesoro dei Granduchi in Florence, Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and Museum of Art & Design in New York. The retrospective confirms Zorzi's international reach, with ties to Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and the USA.
