Alberto Sordi's Roman villa to become a permanent museum

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The Fondazione Museo Alberto Sordi is advancing plans to transform the late actor's villa at Via Druso 45 in Rome into a permanent museum. The Assemblea Capitolina has approved structural interventions, including new exhibition spaces in the garden and a glass-enclosed portico, with a derogation from the 2008 regulatory plan. The villa and its archaeological walkway have been declared cultural heritage assets by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The museum will house over 5,500 films and personal archives, currently being cataloged and restored at Cinecittà's Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Originally opened for the centenary of Sordi's birth in 2020, the house museum was limited by pandemic closures. Councilor Antonella Melito expressed satisfaction with the public interest declaration enabling expanded visitor areas. No completion date has been announced.
