Alberto Sordi retrospective opens in his Roman home 20 years after his death
Twenty years after Alberto Sordi's death on February 24, 2003, a new exhibition titled 'Alberto Sordi e il suo tempo' opens in his former residence in Rome, now the Casa Museo Alberto Sordi. Curated by Alessandra Maria Sette and promoted by the Fondazione Museo Alberto Sordi, the show occupies the Grand Salon and Theater where the actor once screened films. It traces Sordi's career against the backdrop of 20th-century Italian history, including the world wars, the economic boom, the Years of Lead, the divorce referendum, and the establishment of the National Health Service. Iconic characters like Dr. Guido Tersilli from 'Il medico della mutua', Oreste Jacovacci from 'La Grande Guerra', and Remo Proietti from 'Vacanze Intelligenti' are highlighted. Materials come from the foundation's archive and 13 other public and private archives, including Archivio Luce and Teche Rai. The foundation was established in 2011 by Sordi's sister Aurelia to preserve his legacy. The villa, near the Baths of Caracalla, has been Sordi's home from 1958 to 2003 and is now a protected cultural site. The foundation also undertakes conservation and digitization projects, such as the only existing copy of the anthology 'Storia di un italiano' produced by Sordi in the 1970s-80s for Rai.
