Alberto Gianfreda on Ceramics, Destruction, and Resilience
Alberto Gianfreda, born in Desio in 1981, is a sculptor who explores themes of resilience and identity within urban settings. He has been a sculpture instructor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan since 2005. His journey with ceramics started in 2004. Among his significant works are Tavola di condivisione (2015), a monument at Palazzo Lombardia composed of 3,000 terracotta pieces, and Guardians, showcased at the 2019 Now Now exhibition in Rimini, where he disassembled and reconstructed ceramic animals. His 2017 series, Nothing as it seems, features shattered Chinese vases. In 2014, he co-founded Resilienza italiana and launched Leggere il territorio con l’arte for MAC di Lissone. He also took part in the Real Presence residency in Belgrade (2006) and shared his research at the Estorick Collection in London in 2019.
