Alberto Di Fabio's 'Orogenesi' at Museo della Montagna, Turin
The Museo della Montagna in Turin presents 'OROGENESI. Dipinti e carte degli anni Novanta', a solo exhibition of works by Alberto Di Fabio (born 1966, Avezzano), curated by Andrea Lerda. The show explores the artist's painterly investigation of invisible natural alchemies and connections between microcosm and macrocosm, atoms and galaxies, primordial mountains and distant galaxies. Di Fabio's research, rooted in the earth and reaching toward the stars, is modeled on an eschatological journey akin to Dante's Purgatory, where mountains serve as bridges between earthly materiality and spiritual ascent. The paintings depict mountains, rocks, and islands as hybrid presences suspended in indefinite time, defined by organic sinuosities or geometric-abstract traits, evoking purification and transition. The term 'orogenesi' (mountain formation) is used metaphorically to describe a spiritual becoming. Color palettes evolve from subdued to vivid, reflecting an inner journey. The artist reworks influences from Dadaism, Surrealism, Metaphysical art (De Chirico, Carrà), and ancient art, fusing sacred mountain symbolism with modern astrophysics and dreamlike visions. The exhibition invites viewers to an immersive experience of contemplation and introspection, positioning them as active participants in a dialogue extending beyond the visible.
