Alberto Di Fabio's Leonardo-Inspired Installation at Locarno's Rivellino

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Rivellino of the Castello Visconteo in Locarno, designed by Leonardo da Vinci, was chosen as the iconic venue to celebrate the 500th anniversary of his death and recall his connection to Ticino. Each invited artist—Alberto Di Fabio, Luca Ferrario, and Doncho Donchev—engaged with the figure and genius of the great scientist. Specifically, twelve canvases by Alberto Di Fabio (born in Avezzano, 1966) were placed in a section of the bastion, suspended in the air and free to dialogue with the surrounding environment. The installation, with its typical cool colors, contrasts with the earthy tones of the castle's architecture. The concepts of time and infinity in Di Fabio's works evoke the cyclical nature of time, reminding that everything flows. Leonardo's works continue to teach the plasticity of the human mind, which changes by adapting to the world. Like Di Fabio's works, they speak of neuronal speed creating infinite possibilities of worlds and thought. As with Leonardo, nothing is left to chance: human nature is investigated no longer by studying physicality, but something interior, like infinite neuronal connections. Two artists so distant yet united by the search for balance between order and chaos and the controlled use of light, in the wake of science.
