Alberta Whittle Wins 2018 Margaret Tait Award for New Moving Image Work

Alberta Whittle has been named the recipient of the 2018 Margaret Tait Award, receiving £10,000 to develop a new moving image piece that will premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival in 2019. The Barbados-born, Glasgow-based artist was chosen from a shortlist that included Aideen Doran, Rob Kennedy, and Corin Sworn. Whittle's practice encompasses interactive installations using film, sculpture, and performance, often responding to specific sites. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as the Johannesburg Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, BOZAR in Brussels, the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, and VAN Lagos in Nigeria. In 2018, she will serve as an associate artist at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) and as a Fellow at RAW Académie in Dakar, Senegal.
