Alba Zari Wins VI Edition of Premio Graziadei at MACRO Rome
The VI edition of the Premio Graziadei, an annual award for under-35 artists organized by Graziadei Studio Legale, has been won by Alba Zari. The prize includes an exhibition at MACRO – Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma or another public Roman venue, with the winner producing a project over one year on any theme. Zari, born in Bangkok to an Italian mother, explores her Iranian origins and unknown father through photography and documentary. Her project 'The Y – Research of biological father' investigates the Y chromosome to construct an imaginary paternal figure. The jury included Thomas Seelig (Director, Photomuseum Winterthur), Marco De Logu (photographer and Director, Italian Institute of Culture London), Francesco Neri and Andrea Botto (winners of the I edition), and Francesco Graziadei (lawyer, partner at Graziadei Studio Legale). Nearly 140 applications were received. Special mentions were awarded to Carloalberto Treccani, Giorgio Di Noto, Stefano Bazzano, Gaime Meloni, and Mohamed Keita. Previous winners include Andre Botto and Francesco Neri (2012), Luca Nostri and Luca Spano (2013), Pietro Paolini (2014), The Cool Couple (2015), and Alessandro Calabrese (2016).
