Alba Named Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2027

award · 2026-04-26

In 2027, Alba, located in Piedmont, has been designated as the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art after emerging victorious in a competition organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiC). This initiative seeks to promote contemporary art in less central areas and foster alternative tourism. The project, titled 'Le fabbriche del vento' (The Wind Factories), pays tribute to artist Pinot Gallizio and features exhibitions, installations, urban projects, and educational initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and social inclusion. Alba will receive €1 million from MiC. Mayor Alberto Gatto expressed gratitude to Patrizia Sandretto and Nicolas Ballario. Other towns in Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato will participate, with a Biennale delle Langhe planned. Finalists included Chioggia, Foligno, Spoleto, Pietrasanta, Termoli, Varese, and Gallarate. Minister Alessandro Giuli emphasized the advantages of the competition for all involved.
