Alain Huck's Dreamlike Landscapes at Centre culturel suisse, Paris
Swiss artist Alain Huck, previously noted at Art Unlimited in Basel, presents his first solo exhibition in France at the Centre culturel suisse in Paris, running from February 3 to April 15, 2012. The exhibition features a cabin skeleton made of cast aluminum tree branches, surrounded by four monumental charcoal drawings. These landscapes evoke fleeting forms, with references to Dürer's Melancholia, Böcklin's Isle of the Dead, Courbet's Source of the Loue, and ruins of Carthage. A superimposed drawing of an animal skin adds a wild element. Photographic works and videos orbit the central installation: in 'No See No Bomb', breath fogs a window revealing Lausanne, blurring whether the city burns or is clouded. A close-up film mouth whispers 'the language of the crow, the language of the cheetah, etc.' The exhibition concludes with agave plants in pots scarified with the word 'Eden'. The space was remodeled for the show.
